The 411 on Ants

Natural Ant ControlAnts, from the family Formicidae are social insects that live every where on earth except Antarctica.  Ants are the number 1 pest in the United States. Ant colonies can be found in around any property. Ants enter the home through the tiniest cracks in search of water or food. Pests include Argentine, Fire, Pavement and Carpenter Ants.

Color: Ants range in color depending on species. Fire Ants are generally red and Carpenter Ants are black.

Size and Shape: Ants range in size but typically they are from 1/16″ to 5/8″. The body shape of an ant is segmented with a small but oval, over sized abdomen and antennae.

Behavior: Ants are social creatures that build enormous and impressive colonies. Ants excrete an invisible scent that helps with identification, communication and navigation. Ants have been known to travel long distances and haul food or nesting supplies many times their weight. Ants are considered one of the hardest working organisms in the animal kingdom.

Habitat: Ants live everywhere, literally. Species can be found in wood, underground, in trees and under pavement.

Damage: Ants are typically on the lookout for food and water. Some species like the Fire Ant have a nasty bite and can be dangerous to humans. Other ants like the Carpenter Ant can be damaging to the property by destroying wood supports and furniture.

Ant species considered pests include; Carpenter, Argentine, Odorous, Pavement and Red Imported Fire Ants.
